How to leash train your golden retriever?

Golden Retrievers are very intelligent and considered easy dogs to train! By nature, they are a people-pleasing breed and with some motivation and understanding of their personality, you will be able to train your dog well. In this blog, we will talk about everything you need to know regarding your dog's leash training. Leash training includes your puppy of course, but it actually starts with your mindset and your initiative.

Here is a list of tips that will help you Leash Train your dog:

1. Start The Walk With Some Calmness

Your puppy will indeed get excited as soon as you take them out for a walk. While getting your dog leashed, it is important to ensure that you stay calm and comfort your dog while leashing them up! Through this, you will gain your puppy will gain confidence and will feel secure as they get used to being on a lead.

2. Don’t opt for pulling your dog!

When you take your puppy out for a walk, they will want to interact with the other dogs and they will be excited to take in all the smells, from bushes to trees to anything on the side of the path. Don’t prevent your puppy from doing all these things by pulling their leash as it might hurt them. Instead, when you see them getting ready to bolt in a direction you do not want them to go, simply hold still while holding the leash. Through this gesture, the dog will understand that they are not going in the right direction and with repetition, it will begin to follow your lead.

3. Walk Often

As much as possible, make walks a regular part of your daily routine. Go on a walk with your retriever once or twice a day. Going on a walk for at least 20 to 30 minutes is recommended once or twice a day. Through this, your dog will be able to get comfortable with the leash, and you will be able to create a good bond with your furry friend!
